Why Whole Food Supplements? Synthetic Vitamins and Their Hidden Dangers

Do you know how to identify whole food supplements? If not you may be putting your health at risk.

The majority of Americans who are taking vitamins are taking sythetics with the hope of minimizing their health risks and filling in for nutrition shortfalls in their diet.

This may sound like the most prudent course of action, but wait, is it really?

To answer that question, let's look at 3 pieces of evidence that will cause you to question the wisdom of supplementation with synthetics.

  1. Septic tank backup - Did you know that the #1 cause of backed up septic systems are undigested synthetic supplements? That's right. If you swallow a synthetic supplement, it may be poorly digested and absorbed and may end up being flushed down your toilet.

So before investing money in vitamins remember this fact.

  2. Humans are designed to get nutrition from whole foods. Your body was designed to get it's nutrition from food not isolated synthetics created in a laboratory.

Here is an example that illustrates this real well.

A vitamin C deficiency can be corrected with a lime, orange or other whole food that contains Vitamin C. In fact, a lime only contains 60 mg of Vitamin C. But, it also contains a whole complex of other nutrients that increase the absorption and maximum use of the nutrient. This is called synergy. This is why, the amount of any given nutrient is not important, but it's absorption is.

Now let's look at synthetic vitamin C (usually ascorbic acid). To overcome a deficiency you must ingest, let's just say, a whole lot more than what is found in a whole lime or other vitamin C complex containing fruit.

  3. 2007 Study in Journal of the American Medical Association has shown an increased risk of death in people using synthetic forms of beta carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C.

This study shows that synthetic vitamins should be avoided. This is especially true since food based supplements are available. However, 100% food based supplements are difficult to find because of the expense involved in creating these supplements. Few companies are investing in these.

If you must take isolated synthetic supplements, do so under the direction of a trained nutrition health professional.
