Who is the Rogue Dietitian?
What picture does the name Rogue Dietitian bring to your mind? In my mind I think of someone who defies the norms of expected behavior. Well, I have to say that I wasn't always that way. Even after my Master's degree training in nutrition I had a thread of not always wanting to go with the flow especially if it didn't make sense. Upon graduation, I was able to get a job in a hospital pretty quickly. There is where my metamorphosis really began. I decided to be a dietitian because I thought that was where the real answers were for achieving optimal health and wellness. I had begun studying premed in college but was disillusioned by the emphasis on drugs and surgery. I decided those priorities were contrary to my philosophy on health. I later learned that dietitians also were strongly influenced by the drug paradigm. This conclusion I came to after working at a large hospital, as a researcher, and in a weight loss clinic. My real wake up call came as a result of a serious health challenge by my otherwise healthy (or so I thought) husband. My definition of health and wellness was the lack of symptoms. Everything I had been taught wasn't producing the results I expected. I knew there had to be some answers so I was forced to look outside my box of experience and training. I entered the naturopathic world of medicine, becoming the Rogue Dietitian. There I met many alternative practitioners who were having huge successes, mostly unseen by modern practitioners. They did this using supplements, diet, chinese herbs etc. Insanity is repeating the same old, same old, expecting different results. Today, when I meet up with past colleagues, they avoid asking me how my business is doing. But, I can live with myself knowing I've stopped the insanity and really making a difference in people's health.
